STORYLINE:

The coronavirus pandemic began to show timid signs of slowing down in Brazil, after a drop in the average number of deaths for the first time since the beginning of the crisis, although specialists ask for caution against the relaxation of social distancing measures and the overcrowding of beaches.

Brazil registered 30,168 new cases of coronavirus last Saturday, with which it exceeded 4.1 million confirmed infections in total, while deaths now reach 126,203, according to data from its Ministry of Health.

For the third consecutive day, the fatalities caused by COVID in Brazil were below a thousand, which according to the country's health authorities would be the first sign of stabilization.

Although some states, such as Sao Paulo, have already registered a month of drop in the number of deaths, experts agree that it is still too early to speak of a general improvement in the country due to its continental size and heterogeneity.

Faced with these faint signs of improvement in the health crisis, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro took another step in the gradual process of deconfinement and reopened new tourist attractions.

These are the Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro, after almost six months closed, and the San Pablo Aquarium, the largest in South America, which are added to other tourist spots already enabled such as the Sugarloaf Mountain and the Christ the Redeemer.

This Sunday, thousands of Brazilians, exhausted with quarantine measures, were enjoying a day at the beach. Hundreds of umbrellas, groups of young people playing with balls and families sunning themselves. All of them in a compressed space and without face masks.

Brazil is the second country with the highest absolute numbers only behind the United States. The largest country in Latin America left behind in recent weeks a plateau of almost a thousand deaths that dragged almost three months and had a reduction in the number of cases.
