A man in southern India caught three burglars in the act and fought them off single-handedly.

He returned to his home in Bangalore at night and interrupted the thieves. In the ensuing confrontation he smashed out the rear window of their car and forced them to flee.

Hariprasad, a resident of the Mico Layout area, was with his family visiting a relative nearby when a neighbour sensed suspicious activity at his home and called him.

A case has been registered with the Puttenahalli police, who are investigating.

This was the chilling moment a lone man surprised three ferocious burglars, who had broken into his home, and chased them away.

Hariprasad, a resident of Mico Layout in Bangalore in southern India, had gone with his family to visit a close relative, who lived nearby.

On the early hours of October 4, a neighbour sensed some suspicious activity and called him.

Hariprasad rushed back to his home and saw a car parked in the front and the door ajar. As soon as he raised an alarm, three men rushed out carrying a sack of valuables they had stolen from his house.

Terrifying footage from a CCTV camera on the street shows a fight breaking out between Hariprasad and the burglars.

Hariprasad picked up a few stones and threw it at them, while one of the burglars fought back ferociously.

The burglars managed to start the car and escape but not before Hariprasad broke their rear windshield. As the three men drove away, he even had the presence of mind to retrieve his valuables through the car window.

A case has been registered at a Puttenahalli police station who are investigating.
