Dramatic footage shows a landslide caused by Tropical storm Pepito washing boulders and trees through a village in the Philippines, while terrified residents look on.

Andriana Eyong said landslides had blocked drainage channels near their town in Makilala, Cotabato, so the muddy water overflowed into their lowland village.

The flash floods carried debris from the landslide such as huge logs, rocks, and soil which eventually collapsed the only bridge that connects them to nearby towns.

She said: “We heard a loud noise outside and our neighbours were panicking. We were all shocked to see the huge flash flood and landslide destroy our bridge at the same time.”

Motorists were stranded and could not pass to leave the town even after the flash flood.

Local officials have prevented people from walking near the collapsed bridge because the soil is still soft and could cause an accident.

Tropical storm Pepito continues to intensify and hit 23 provinces in the northern and central Philippines. It is also expected to dump heavy rains in the south until Friday (October 23).

The weather state bureau warned that flooding, flash floods and rain-induced landslides may occur during heavy or prolonged rainfall while Pepito, also called Saudel, is in the country.
