A Thai man had to be rescued after a gold ring was stuck on his swollen right finger.

Kittiphong Wattana, 23, spent hours in his kitchen in Bangkok, Thailand, trying to remove the accessory from his finger but to no avail.

He had already tried lubricating his finger with soap until it was swollen from repeatedly being rubbed.

The man gave up and called the local rescue volunteer service for help after struggling for several hours.

He said: "I tried to take it off myself but it was difficult and it started to hurt.''

The rescue volunteers arrived at the man's house and placed a thin metal sheet under the ring so his skin would not touch the file.

One of the rescuers began filing the ring to create a gap and took only five minutes to remove it.

The man thanked the volunteers before the team left his place and kept the ring as a memento.
