File footage shows dozens of fans who travelled from across the country to gather outside the clinic where football icon Diego Maradona recovered from brain surgery earlier this month.

It was announced today that the Argentine soccer legend had died at the age of 60.

Footage from November 4 shows groups of fans congregating outside the clinic with banners showing Maradona's face and the words "Come on, Diego!" at the Olivos Clinic.

Dozens of cars of fans of Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, the team that Diego Maradona trains, headed this Wednesday in a caravan to the clinic where the former footballer is hospitalized to express their support after the operation to which he was subjected this Tuesday.

Maradona's fans left the Buenos Aires city of La Plata around noon and traveled the almost 75 kilometers together to the Olivos Clinic, also in the province of Buenos Aires, where Maradona is hospitalized, who was operated on for a subdural hematoma.

Upon arrival, the fans, most of them from a subsidiary called "Diego Maradona", got out of their vehicles and displayed flags with the name or face of the soccer star and began to sing.

The former Argentine coach took over as coach of Gimnasia in September 2019.

Last Friday, the day he turned 60, he was at the team's stadium at the start of the match on the first day of the local tournament against the Board of Trustees, but withdrew after a few minutes.

Following this surgery, fellow Argentina football star Lionel Messi sent him a message of support.

"Diego, all the strength in the world. My family and I want to see you well as soon as possible," said the Barcelona forward, who like Maradona in his pomp wears the No.10 jersey.

Maradona's daughter Dalma said she had visited her father after his surgery but did not give further details of his condition.

"I just want to thank everyone for the constant displays of love for my dad, for my sister and for me, thanks to everyone who prayed for him," she tweeted on Wednesday morning.

Diego Armando Maradona continues in intensive care with a good evolution of his emergency operation on his head, which he underwent on the night of this last Tuesday (11/03) at the Olivos Clinic.
