A tense scene unfolded in northeastern India on October 4 when a man risked his life to rescue a calf that was swept up in a choppy river.

The incident took place in the Ithai Barrage along the Manipur River.

The entire rescue operation was filmed by one of the eyewitnesses on a bridge.

Video footage lasting six minutes shows the calf slipping and falling into the overflowing river before being swept away with the fast-flowing river currents.

The calf is washed to the other side of the water where it receives support from the wall of the riverbank.

Rescuer Laishram Sanjoy Meetei then bravely slips into the river to retrieve the drowning animal before another man helps haul both of them out of the water.

A Good Samaritan risked his own life to save a calf from drowning in northeastern India's Manipur on October 04. The incident took place in the Ithai Barrage along the Manipur river.

With the heavy flow of water, the bovine is briefly washed to the other side of the overbridge, from where it receives support at one bank of the river in order to refrain itself from being swept away further. It continues to use the same support to get to the place it was swept away from in hope that it would be able to climb up the slippery large steps.

However, on reaching the bank, the calf gives in to its fate realising there is no method to climb up. Within a few moments, a considerate young man named Laishram Sanjoy Meetei who planned to help the animal, slips and falls into the river in a similar fashion. 

The man struggles to keep himself afloat along with restricting the calf from being swept away. Another man then proceeds to help the two out and both of them are able to rescue the calf successfully.

The entire operation while the calf struggled to gasp for air was filmed by eyewitnesses on the bridge Sadananda.

Locals can later be seen cooperating with each other to help the calf get back up on the overbridge.
