Brave soldier in India dives into river to rescue drowning woman

A drowning woman in east India was saved by a heroic soldier, who risked his life diving into the river to rescue her.

On February 16 at Patbausi bridge area in Barpeta, Assam, a soldier named Havildar Ashok Bhakar jumped into the Nakhanda river to save a woman who jumped into the river from the bridge.

The woman had jumped in the Nakhanda River and was struggling to stay afloat. According to Bhakar: "Our camp was nearby, as soon as we heard about the drowning women we ran towards the river to rescue her."

People had gathered there and Havildar Ashok dove into the river and saved the woman without any safety aid.

According to local reports the woman was later admitted to hospital.
