This is the moment rescuers drilled into a concrete manhole cover to free the leg of a one-year-old boy that was accidentally stuck inside.

Natthapat Phromma, 17, was walking home with his son when his small leg was caught inside the hole in Pathum Thani, central Thailand.

The frantic young father immediately called the emergency services for help as his son cried in pain.

Rescue workers rushed to the scene and set up a jackhammer to remove the pieces of concrete around the boy's leg and widen the hole.

One of the rescuers said they decided to use the drill because simply pulling the boy's legs out could injure his young bones.

He said: “The manhole was made up of concrete so it would be safer to use a drilling machine because his leg was stuck too deep."

They covered the frightened boy with a white blanket to reduce his fears from the construction tool.

The boy was crying throughout the rescue operation which lasted ten minutes while his worried father tried to calm him down.

The rescuers were able to free the boy's leg and were checked for injuries by paramedics. The boy was then rushed to a nearby hospital for a more comprehensive health check-up.

Speaking after, the young father said they didn't know that there was a small hole on the street that could harm their child.

He said: "We always keep an eye on him, but we did not know about that hole. It is dangerous, it should be fixed."
