A tiny three-week-old elephant calf that was stranded in a mud puddle due to an injured leg was rescued by the Forest Department in north-eastern India on December 8.

The incident took place in Udmari village of Nagaon district.

Visuals from after the rescue operation show the baby elephant being taken care of by animal rescuer Binod Dulu Bora. The young elephant is kept warm seen wrapped up in a blanket that Bora adjusts to the cold calf.

The mother of the tiny calf attempted the baby's rescue but was unable to even after several tries. When Bora received information about the stranded calf, he rushed to the spot along with Forest officials, who found the animal in a miserable state.

One of its legs was injured, the treatment for which was given to the baby at the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation in Kaziranga.
