Residents in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh caught not wearing a face mask are sent to jail for 10 hours by police.

Footage from November 21 shows a group being detained by police and transported to jail in the back of a van.

District Magistrate Ashish Singh said: "We are running an awareness campaign to wear masks. But those who refuse to listen will be sent to jail."

The detainees are tested for coronavirus and if positive they are sent to hospitals.

Different Indian cities are taking strict measures to enforce mask and prevent Corona virus. In Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, police caught people not wearing masks and sent them to jail for 10 hours. They were later released after taking a pledge that they will wear mask always. "We are running an awareness campaign to wear masks. But those who refuse to listen will be sent to jail," said Ashish Singh District Magistrate. Additional Superintendent of Police P Amarendra Singh said people are rounded up between 9 am ad 6 pm. "They are tested for corona virus and sent to hospitals if found positive," he said.
