Man cultivates strawberries after losing job due to pandemic in central India
A man lost his job due to Covid-19, cultivated strawberries worth lakhs in the village in central India's Madhya Pradesh. The incident took place in Sagar district.
Visuals shot on January 15 witnessing the incident feature a large farm with strawberries blooming out of it. The fruits get cultivated with a unique method and a proper irrigation system. The berries are covered with a special foil to protect from certain temperatures. After harvesting these crops, the products are assembled inside a plastic box.
Aniruddh Singh returned to his roots after his coaching center stopped due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Determined to give a new dimension to farming, he harvested strawberries on his land of Bundelkhand. He earned a profit of five lakh rupees in a season on one and a half acres of land.
Aniruddh interacted with his colleagues from Himachal Pradesh and took the support of the officials of the horticulture department. They also agreed to a pilot project for his cultivation in the district. They also advised him to use the drip and mulching method. In October, he made a sow, which cost one and a half lakh rupees.
In December, he began harvesting and contacted the merchants of the metros online to sell the crop. The deal was settled with traders from Indore and Mumbai. The temperature for growing crops should be less than 25 degrees. There was no strawberry cultivation in Sagar district and his new innovation will benefit other farmers in the coming days. Aniruddh has also decided to stay in his roots for four months in a year and give free coaching for competitive examinations to the children.
