At least one dead after Tropical Cyclone Ana blasts Fiji with high winds and rain

At least one person died and five were reported missing today (January 31) as Fiji was battered by a tropical cyclone.

Cyclone Ana, a Category Two storm, slammed into the South Pacific island nation with winds up to 140 kilometres an hour (87 mph) and heavy rain, causing widespread flooding.

A 49-year-old man drowned and four fishermen and a three-year-old boy were missing, according to the National Disaster Management Office.

More than 7,600 people were taking shelter in evacuation centres, according to local officials.
