Protesters demonstrated outside the Paris head office of France's Total on Tuesday (February 9) as employees and environmentalists accused the energy company of jettisoning jobs while failing to protect the environment.

Employees of Total's Grandpuits refinery, who have been striking for weeks following the announcement that the plant would be converted into a zero crude platform with the loss of more than 700 jobs, were joined in Paris' La Defense district by climate activists and Greenpeace protesters on Tuesday.

Protesters in uniform lit flares and held signs that referenced Total's decision to maintain its €0.66 a share investor payout despite reporting multibillion-dollar full-year losses.
