Air Customs officials seized foreign currency worth Rs. 70.28 lakh (USD 96,160) from southern India's Chennai International Airport on February 24. The suspects were intercepted at the terminal of the airport.

Visuals witnessing the smuggled items feature an official opening a carton box. Following this, they recover books and magazines from the package, but beneath it, they discover five parcels wrapped with adhesive tape. Therefore, after opening those parcels, they retrieve foreign currencies of 500 denominations and assemble them with other illicit items.

A 60-year-old passenger, identified as Noormohammed Sultan, of Kanchipuram was intercepted by the customs officials after he cleared immigration and was about to proceed towards the security hold area for boarding the Indigo flight 6E-65 to Dubai.

On further search, two thousand United States Dollars in 100 denominations were recovered from his pant pockets, which was valued at Rs. 1.45 lakh. Furthermore, his check-in bag and a carton box were seized from the aircraft. The package contained magazines and books, but beneath them, they retrieved five parcels wrapped with adhesive tape. Inside those packets, Saudi Riyals were ingeniously concealed to trick the security.

Around 3,57,000 Saudi Riyals of 500 denomination were concealed inside those parcels, which is worth Rs. 68.83 lakh (USD 94,105). The currencies were seized under the Customs Act read with Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) Regulations.
