Zoo officers in the Indonesian province of Sumatra tried to catch a pelican to cut its feathers but the bird decided otherwise.

It tried to escape by flying away before eventually being caught.

A zoo official said the pelican managed to flee from its cage, so it was necessary to cut its feathers to prevent the bird from escaping and disturbing visitors.

The pelican can weigh up to 15 kilograms with a wingspan of 3 metres which makes it one of the largest birds on Earth.

Pelicans use their elastic pouches to catch fish and can hold some 3 gallons of water in their bills.

number of zoo officers were seen trying to catch a pair of pelicans at the Bukittinggi Zoo, West Sumatra, Indonesia, but the large bird found out and tried to run away from the officers.

This arrest was carried out in order to cut some of the feathers on the wings that were already getting long, before this bird managed to jump out of the cage to disturb visitors at that location, one zoo official said this cutting was to prevent this bird from flying far out of the cage.

The undan or pelican is a water bird that has a pocket under its beak, and is part of the Pelecanidae bird family, weighs 15 kg with a wingspan of 3 meters, the longest among other birds, according to Wikipedia this bird lives generally in warm regions, and they are not found in arctic regions, deep seas, oceanic islands and the continent of South America.
