Amnesty International releases report accusing Israel of committing apartheid against Palestinians
Amnesty International today (February 1) released a report accusing Israel of committing apartheid against Palestinians.
The human rights group investigation alleges that Israel carries out “institutionalized and systematic discrimination against Palestinians."
The report, titled “Israel’s Apartheid Against Palestinians: Cruel System of Domination and Crime Against Humanity,” accuses Israel of “institutionalized segregation and discrimination against Palestinians, as a racial group, in all areas under its control amounts to a system of apartheid, and a serious violation of Israel’s human rights obligations.”
Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid was quick to condemn the report in a statement today.
He said Amnesty is “another radical organization that echoes propaganda with no serious examination. Instead of seeking facts, Amnesty quotes lies spread by terrorist organizations.”
The human rights organisation says it based its findings on decades of field research.
Human Rights Watch released a similar report in April accusing Israel of committing crimes against humanity, including apartheid and persecution.
This archive footage from March 2021 shows Israeli forces dispersing Palestinian protesters in East Jerusalem.
The protesters had gathered to voice their anger at being evicted from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood.
