Firefighters rescued 14 trapped locals as a south Chinese town was battered by a tornado on May 14.


Today on May 14, 14 people were rescued out after their town was battered by tornado in Shenze, Jiangsu province, in southern China.

The clip shows a tornado ripping debris off the ground in Shenze, Jiangsu province. The tornado caused a power cut in the town as well.

It’s reported that several power facilities, houses and vehicles were damaged, and citizens were injured.

At present, the local rescue work is being organized. The tornado level is to be further confirmed by an on-site disaster investigation.

Local resident Mr Chen said: "Initially we couldn’t make phone calls, the streets are also chaotic, trees, poles and factories all fell down, like the disaster movie where the end of the world comes."

The local Fire Department sent 24 fire trucks and more than 150 fire officers to the scene. Fourteen people were rescued from being trapped.
