Footage shows explosives being detonated on a mountain to trigger small snowslides to control avalanches in Canada.

Local Jeff Samson was watching from their village as staff from the Kananaskis Country Public Safety controlled the explosions in Mount Rundle, Alberta on February 6.

He said: "There were six charges detonated that day. It was cool to watch them go off. These activities keep us safe as we live on the foot of the mountain."

The explosives are being used to create smaller snowslides to prevent large masses of ice from building up and causing massive avalanches.
