A dog was rescued after spending two days at the bottom of a well in Karnataka, western India.

Locals informed the police of the dog after attempting to rescue the pooch themselves.

Officers led by a team of firefighters used ropes to lift the dog from out of the pit in Udupi.

The dog did not suffer from any injuries.

A dog fell into a 100-feet deep well behind T M Pai hospital in Udupi city of Karnataka state in India. Locals tried to lift the dog on their own for two days but when they failed they informed police and fire brigade on May 31. A team led by district fire brigade officer Vasant Kumar was dispatched to rescue the dog, who lowered a long rope into the well. They caught the dog in a knot and lifted it successfully. The dog did not have any injury as there was water in the well which had cushioned its fall. Though it was starving for two days it was still energetic enough to run away.
