A new antenna was airlifted to the top of the UK's tallest freestanding structure - the Emley Moor transmitting station in West Yorkshire.

A specialist helicopter lifted sections of a new antenna to the top of the tower that stands at 330.4 metres (1,084 feet).

The new antenna is part of ongoing upgrades to the mast that is listed as the 25th tallest tower in the world.

A new antenna was lifted onto the top of Yorkshire's tallest free standing structure yesterday (7th May) by a specialist helicopter equipped with lifting capabilities.

The helicopter, a Kamoz KA-32, lifted huge sections of new antenna to the top of the Arqiva Tower (formerly known as Emley Moor Mast or Transmitter) at Emley Moor in West Yorkshire. Some of the sections were 18m tall by 3.9m wide.

The new antenna is part of ongoing upgrades to the mast which is 329m tall and was originally higher than the Eiffel Tower in France, but it is now believed the new antenna has lowered the hieght of the building by 11m.

A 2nd temporary mast was constructed back in 2018 to take over broadcasting, while the main transmitter was upgraded and once completed, the temporary mast will be taken down
