Taoist Yuan Xiugang loves martial arts since he was a child. In elementary school, he learned folk boxing from a folk boxer. After graduating from junior high school, he went to Shaolin Temple and learned Shaolin Kung Fu in a kung fu school for three years. In 1990/03, he went to Wudang Mountain and became a disciple of Taoist Zhong Yunlong, the authentic heir of Wudang Sanfeng School of martial arts, learned Wudang School internal martial arts, and became a 15th generation disciple of the Wudang Sanfeng sect.
