Calm before the chaos: Shakespeare statue fenced in to protect it from foolish fans in Leicester Square

England's notoriously rowdy football fans forced London's authorities to fence in the statue of William Shakespeare in Leicester Square.

When Scottish fans took over the square during a previous match, against England, they climbed all over the statue, which reportedly sustained damage.

This time authorities were taking no chances and had the statue boarded-in.

It appeared to work, as thousands of England fans gathered in the square on Sunday mostly located themselves in a different part of the square.
