An incredibly patient elephant underwent tumour removal surgery while still standing, in central India's Madhya Pradesh on July 14.

The incident took place at the Panna Tiger Reserve, located in Chhatarpur.

Visuals showed veterinary experts conducting the surgery on the ailing jumbo, who had its eyes covered with a green cloth.

They remove the tumour from the elephant's front left leg while the mammal patiently cooperates.

The officials found the elephant, Ganesh, a decade ago, near Rewa.

They rescued him and brought him to the reserve, where he aided them in tracking stray tigers.

Dr Sobha Javre and Dr Sanjeev Gupta performed the surgery and said they were hopeful of Ganesh's recovery.
