Meerkat Standing at Attention to Catch Food

At Izu Shaboten Zoo, there are many opportunities to feed the animals. Near the entrance was the Meerkat display and lots of children were trying to throw the food across the water to feed the meerkats.
The meerkats knew the food was coming as they would stand on their hind legs, on attention which made me think even these animals have been influenced by Japan's need to be proper and inoffensive.
In the video, you can see the meerkat grab the food from the water, which to me shows the Japanese way of not being wasterful (mottainai).
