This is the dramatic moment a motorbike burst into flames while being repaired in a garage in southern Thailand.

The vehicle's owner jumpstarted the two-wheeler to test if it would work after the repair when the fire started in Nakhon Si Thammarat province on July 17.

Shocked workers rushed to the spot and tried putting it out using dusters kept in the garage but to no avail as the fire only grew bigger.

To prevent the fire from spreading inside the shop, the mechanics took the burning vehicle out and poured sand over it, dousing the fire.

Garage owner Billy Nittichai, 22, said: 'I was shocked when the fire burst out from the motorcycle. The oil was flooding from the carburettor when the engine was started which caused a spark.

'Fortunately, we managed to put out the fire and that everyone was safe. Even the man who started the engine had no burns on his body.'

The burned motorbike which initially only had engine problems had to stay in the garage for several more days before it was fully repaired.

No one was reported hurt in the incident including the owner of the motorbike and shop staff. The fire also did not spread in the garage.
