This is the moment wildfires burned through a hillside forest near tourist hotels in Turkey.

Footage shows huge clouds of smoke coming from the blaze as firefighter aircraft rushed into the area to put out the flames in Marmaris on July 29.

Onlooker Kagan Kanay said: ‘I was filming like I was in a scary movie, honestly. All of us in the area were stunned. I have never seen anything like that in my life.’

Eight people have reportedly died due to the fires affecting towns on Turkey’s southern coast, while thousands more have been evacuated.

The Turkish government has vowed to compensate for the loss of homes and property in the ravaged areas while efforts to put out the wildfires are ongoing.

Wildfires continue to burn across Turkey affecting neighbouring countries Spain, Greece and Italy as heatwaves brought extreme temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.
