A truck was swallowed when a large sinkhole opened up on a road in central India on Wednesday (August 4).

Footage showed the vehicle on its side at the bottom of the crater on National Highway-3 in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

No one was injured in the incident that was believed to have been caused by torrential rains weakening the road surface.

In a bizarre incident, a large sinkhole emerged on the road due to incessant rains in central India's Madhya Pradesh on August 4. The incident took place on National Highway-3 near Shivpuri.

Visuals feature the hole appearing on the highway after heavy rains lashed the city. After a few seconds, the cavity grows wider and swallows part of the road while the onlookers behold the occurrence from a safe distance as a truck lies upturned inside of it. Fortunately, no casualties are reported.

Torrential rains have triggered massive floods in several regions of Madhya Pradesh with Shivpuri being the worst affected districts, leaving seven dead, 25 others missing, and hundreds stranded. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were in action while helicopters reached the Shivpuri district to evacuate people from the flooded villages. Meanwhile, a red alert has been issued in rain-battered Shivpuri and Sheopur districts.
