Thick clouds of smoke cover a campground as firefighters battled the River Fire burning through trees in California.

Footage shows a firefighter plane emitting red fire retardant over the plumes of smoke at a wildfire in Bear River Campground in Placer County on August 4.

According to the Cal Fire Nevada Yuba Placer Unit, additional backup has been requested to extinguish the so-called River Fire, which is estimated to have burned at least 1,400 acres of land.

The River Fire originated less than 100 miles south of the Dixie Fire, which has engulfed 278,000 acres and is considered the 11th largest wildfire in California history.
