Sicilian volcano Etna - the largest volcano in Europe - on Tuesday threw a column of ash to a height of 9 km. It is reported by the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology. "Experts in the morning are observing the release of ash from the southeastern crater," the institute said on Twitter. Volcanologists have also reported a lava fountain. The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology has issued a red flight warning, but so far the ash release has not affected the operation of the international airport in Catania.
