Journalists and locals call it the 'Berlin wall'. The city of Paris and its mayor have decided to take radical steps to move drug addicts from the Jardin d'Eole in the popular 18th district to La Villette square.

A wall was erected between Pantin with its lively streets and cafes and the square of the Porte de la Villette, where crack users from the capital are now gathered.

The inhabitants disapproved this decision forcing them to lengthen their daily path as the passage was an essential shortcut for many families and workers.

Residents have also denounced the inhumane treatments of drug addicts and accused the government of pushing the problem further away instead of tackling the issue.
