This is the heartwarming moment villagers banded together to save a dog that had been swept away by a raging flood in Thailand.

Footage shows the stray struggling to swim in the middle of a swollen river after heavy rain caused floods in Lam Sonthi district, Lopburi province on September 27.

Kind locals tried to rescue the dog using a log but failed as the pooch was carried off by the current. A man had to bend over the bridge guardrail to reach the dog while a woman held onto him by the legs.

The drenched canine was eventually rescued when the man grabbed and pulled it up by its neck. It was seen lingering near its emotional rescuers before walking away.

At least ten provinces in Thailand have been inundated by Tropical Storm Dianmu causing widespread flooding, according to the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department of Thailand. The Thai Meteorological Department said rainfall is expected to subside within the week.

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
