A swollen river overflowed and swamped roads, leaving motorists stranded after storms in the Philippines.

Footage shows gushing water from the Tablu River sweeping over the road in the town of Tampakan in South Cotabato province on July 28.

The torrents rendered the path impassable, with one resident's motorbike reportedly being swept away after he tried to cross the deluge. Locals said he is safe, and that the water had eventually receded later that day.

The Philippines and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November.

Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
