Record tide in Kent gives jetty users real 'sea view'
Sunday (November 7) saw the second-highest equinoctial tide in Sheerness, Kent at a predicted 6.13m - but this was boosted even higher by a 'surge tide".
And that meant that Southend on sea's tidal gauge recorded a peak height in the Thames Estuary of 6.68m.
The footage shows anyone considering using the Neptune Jetty's two seaside benches would be treated to quite literally a "sea view" as both were submerged under water!
An equinoctial tide is a tide occurring when the sun is near equinox - when daytime and nighttime are of roughly equal lengths.
