Spectacular footage shows bridge being demolished in southern China
A bridge was demolished in a city centre in southern China.
A spectacular video filmed in the city of Chongqing on December 7 shows a bridge being demolished, sending heavy smoke into the air.
According to reports, 1.5-tonnes of explosives were used to demolish the bridge in less than 10 seconds. Nearby buildings were not damaged at all.
It is expected the work on the 5,000-cubic-metre area's cleaning work will finish in10 days.
After that, a 321-metre-long and 22-metre-wide new bridge with the same starting and ending points as the old one will be built. The height of the new bridge will be 7 to 8 metres lower than the old one and it is scheduled to open to the public in 2023.
