Hero volunteers saved a dog hit by a motorbike by performing CPR on the dying animal.

The stray pooch was injured when the vehicle crashed into it in Samut Prakan province on December 18.

The 24-year-old rider was injured while trying to swerve away from the dog and had to be carried on a stretcher to be taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Rescue volunteers found the mutt lying motionless on the side of the road. Its eyes were open but it appeared unresponsive when the paramedics checked it for vital signs.

The concerned rescuers tried to revive the pooch, gently rubbing and patting its chest, and were relieved when it finally started breathing.

After regaining consciousness, the dog was taken to the vet to make sure it was out of danger. A kind local named Prasertpon Kaewraksa paid for its medical bill, which was the equivalent of around two hundred pounds.

Prasertpon said: 'The poor dog was hurt without doing anything wrong. I wanted to help so I agreed to pay for the cost of the vets to help. I'll follow the dog's condition and hopefully I can take care of him when he's better.'

Rescue volunteer Khun Boonsong said: ‘The dog looked like it was fighting for its life while we were performing CPR. I’m glad we managed to rescue both the rider and the stray dog.’
