A self-taught Chinese artist intricately carved a crocodile and a dolphin into a frozen river in northern China.

In the video filmed on December 23, Mr Gao is seen sculpting the 7-metre-long ice animals.

The 38-year-old sculptor said he was an ordinary farmer who taught himself to make ice sculptures last year. He had never learned it before, but he felt it was fun so he started to make sculptures on an icy river.

The video was filmed in Tonghua, Jilin province, and provided by local media with permission.
