A stunning murmuration of starlings swooped and swirled across the skies above Gretna in the UK.

The impressive shape-shifting spectacle took place on November 25.

Every winter the starting roost at Gretna builds up to many thousands when birds from Eastern Europe migrate west to enjoy or milder weather. Each year this spectacle attracts many nature lovers to come and enjoy this amazing sight as they murmurate across the evening sky. The large flock often attracts the attention of birds of prey like sparrowhawks to try and catch a starling for supper, making the flock swoop and swirl even more. (At the12-second point in the video, you can see a sparrowhawk attack the flock from below) The performance usually lasts for about 30 minutes before the flock drops down to roost for the night in a small reedbed right next to the M6 motorway.
