A prisoner at Tihar Jail, New Delhi, found the idea of being caught with a phone hard to stomach so he swallowed the device.

Footage from January 15 shows doctors finding the device in the inmate's stomach.

The prisoner, named Santosh, swallowed the device as jail staff were approaching his cell for an inspection.

Following this, Santosh complained about a pain in his stomach. He was then admitted to Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital where doctors found the device.

The phone was eventually taken out of the prisoner's body via his mouth during an operation.

An inmate of Tihar jail swallowed a mobile phone when authorities approached to conduct a search on him in northern India's Delhi. The operation took place on January 15 in Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital.

Visuals feature the doctors removing the mobile phone from the inmate's body during the ongoing operation. They further monitor the movement of the cell phone through the screen placed in the operation theatre. Fortunately, the phone gets extracted during the successful surgery.

The prisoner, identified as Santosh (24), swallowed the cell phone when the jail staff was approaching for a search on suspicion. Following this, he complained about an ache in his stomach, owing to which he was admitted to the Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital. Based on medical examinations by Dr. Siddharth, the mobile phone was discovered and an endoscopy was done through the mouth and the mobile was caught using a snare.

The man was operated on and the mobile, 7 cm long and 3 cm wide, was taken out through the mouth. He is now in a stable condition and sent back to jail. The whole procedure was performed by the team of GB Pant Hospital and led by Dr. Siddharth and Dr. Manish Tomar of the Gastroenterology Department.
