Doctors in Indore, Madhya Pradesh successfully removed a 17-kilogram lump from a woman's ovaries.

Graphic footage shows the medical team cut open the 45-year-old's abdomen and extract the huge mass.

The woman, identified as Mrs. Rajkumari, came to the hospital with abdominal pain and bloating. MRI scans were suggestive of a large solid multiloculated cyst.

A team of doctors removed an ovarian lump weighing 17 kg (37 lbs) from a patient's body in central India's Madhya Pradesh on January 27. The incident took place at the Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital, located in Indore.

Visuals witnessing the incident features the patient undergoing the exploratory laparotomy. The experts cut her abdomen open and extract a bulky mass out of it. The surgery gets completed with the collective effort of the team. Once done, the doctors examine the lump and weigh it. Later, the experts stand surrounding the extracted mass while the patient rests post-surgery.

The 45-year-old woman, identified as Mrs. Rajkumari, came to the hospital with abdominal pain and bloating. Her magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) reports were suggestive of a large abdominopelvic well-circumscribed solid cystic multiloculated lesion with multiple divisions. Following this, a surgery was planned according to her past medical records of having diabetes and two previous childbirths.

Rajkumari was admitted to the hospital a month before her exploratory laparotomy to monitor her sugar levels. Following this, the surgery was conducted, and a mass of 17 kgs (37 lbs) was removed from her ovaries.  The doctors performed a total abdominal hysterectomy (TAH), Bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO), omentectomy, and prophylactic appendectomy.

The teams of doctors involved in the procedure were gynaecologists, anaesthesia experts, and surgeons. The gynaecology team headed by Dr. Professor Sumitra Yadav included Dr. Vibha Mosses, Dr. Surbhi Porwal, Dr. Sapna Chaurasiya, Dr.Shraddha Paliwal, Dr. Deepmala Chouhan, Dr. Prasathi, Dr. Sonali Dutt, and Kavita Verma.

The anaesthesia team headed by Dr. K K Arora included Dr. Ravi Barde, Dr. Bijendra Singh, Dr. Shikha Jain, Dr. Shreya, and Dr. Umesh. The surgery team consisted of Dr. Akriti and Dr. Dipshikha.

The doctors of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics performed the one-of-a-kind surgery for the first time. Initially, the weighing machine used for newborns was being used to weigh the lump, but a separate device was called for after it failed to read the lump's weight.
