There were quiet streets in Indonesia's capital on Tuesday 8 February after the government tightened Covid restrictions.

The country's 4-tiered Enforcement of Restrictions on Public Activities (PPKM) rules were tightened to Level 3, amid an Omicron surge.

Jakarta is notorious for its traffic jams, but footage shows only light traffic, as rules forced shopping malls to limit capacity to 60% and only stay open until 9pm.

Places of worship are limited to 50% of capacity and public facilities to 25%.

On Tuesday 8 February the number of Covid cases in Indonesia increased by 37,492.

One of the main streets in Jakarta looks deserted, unlike the usual days. This follows the policy of the Implementation of Activity Restrictions (PPKM) in Jakarta which was raised to level 3. Mall visitors are limited to a maximum of 60% of visitors and can only operate until 9 pm. Places of worship are a maximum of 50% of capacity and public facilities are limited to only 25% of visitors.
