Dozens of endangered baby turtles raced to the sea after they were born on a beach in Thailand.

The newly-hatched green sea turtles were seen crawling out of their mother's nest in the Mu Koh Similan national park in Phang Nga province on February 26.

National park officers then went to the beach to secure the area while the tiny creatures made their first steps into the ocean.

Footage shows the cute baby turtles waddling in the sand towards the sea. All of the turtles were able to reach the water safely.

A park spokesman said: 'Sea turtles come here every year to lay their eggs. We hope to meet these babies again someday when it's their turn to become parents.'

Marine turtles almost always return to the beach where they hatched to lay eggs. These nests are usually far from feeding areas so females travel hundreds of kilometres during egg-laying season.

Green sea turtles are classed as 'endangered' on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species.
