A hawk trapped in a kite string hanging from a tree was rescued by firefighters in northern India on Sunday March 13.

The incident took place near the police station in Lohaghat, a town in Champawat district in Uttarakhand state.

Video shows the bird hanging upside down in a pine tree, unable to free itself. A man climbed a ladder and used a sickle tied to the tip of a stick to cut the string. As soon as the string was cut, the bird flew away.

The team went to the spot as soon as they were told about it.

Seeing the bird struggling to break free, at a height of about 15m (50 feet), the team began their operation to free it, which lasted for about 30 minutes.

According to reports, the rescue was carried out by a team comprising firefighters Ravi Singh, Rajendra Singh, Jagjit Singh, Umesh Rana, Ashok Danga, Anjul Pandey, and drivers Jagdish Singh Tilada and Rajesh Kharkwal. They are all employees of Lohaghat's fire service.
