This is the shocking moment a runaway trolley knocked down two shoppers who were riding a travelator in a supermarket in Singapore.

CCTV footage shows a female employee unloading products from the device parked near the edge of the walkway in a Sheng Siong branch on February 25.

A woman stepped onto the moving belt just as the trolley began sliding downwards. The loose cart began picking up speed on the slope, knocking down the lady from behind before hitting another customer at the travelator's lower platform.

The female worker chased after the cart and was seen side-stepping the lady lying prone on the ground. A male worker later pressed what appeared to be an emergency stop button, bringing the travelator to a halt.

A Sheng Siong supermarket spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying it happened in their store along Canberra Street in February 2022.

The company said in a statement: 'The incident took place at our Canberra 105 store in February 2022. Our store personnel had immediately apologised and extended assistance to the two customers.

'The health and safety of our customers is of utmost importance to us. We will learn from the incident and take necessary measures to prevent such incidents.'
