This is the dramatic moment a boy was swept away while trying to cross a swollen river during flash floods from tropical storm Megi in the Philippines.

The youngster was trying to reach his home on the other side which was cut off from the deluge caused by heavy rain in the town of Dulangan Pilar in Capiz province on April 11.

Locals gathered along the banks of the fast-flowing river to urge him to safety. He later clambered ashore.

The tropical storm, locally known as Agaton, made landfall in Guiuan municipality, Eastern Samar at 7:30 am on April 10 with maximum sustained winds of up to 75 kilometres per hour.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said at least 123 have died due to landslides and flooding triggered by the storm.

Megi has also caused agricultural damage worth several million dollars. Hundreds of thousands of people have been evacuated.

State weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration has lifted all cyclone warnings saying Megi has dissipated on Wednesday, but rain showers are still expected in the country's central provinces.
