Dozens of motorbike riders were injured after skidding and crashing because of an oil slick on a road in Thailand.

Police said 53 motorbike riders passing by on the slippery road sustained bruises, broken legs, and arms, when they were knocked down to the ground in Songkhla province on May 4.

The injured riders were rushed to hospital while 13 of who had minor injuries asked to stay and received treatment by medics on site.

It was unclear yet where the oil slick came from, but investigations on the incident are ongoing.

Kho Hong police station officer Police Lieutenant General Phantanan Phakdidhumrongsap said: ‘We are now looking to find the car that caused the oil spill.’

Traffic officers had to facilitate motorists through the area and local officials scrubbed off the oil. The incident caused heavy traffic in the area but returned to normal the next day.
