This footage was filmed and produced 14 May 2022.

A massive fire broke out on May 13th afternoon in a building in Delhi's Mundka Industrial area. Around 27 people have been reported dead and more than 50 injured. The fire broke on the 1st floor of the building which is an office of a CCTV cameras and router manufacturing company. While the blaze broke out around 4.40 pm, the magnitude of the toll became clear only by night, as rescuers managed to douse the flames to an extent and enter the premises — only to find charred bodies inside. The search operation is still on and DNA Samples of the un-identified bodies is being sent over for identification.

Interview translations:

Name: Yogi Kailash Nath: "I work at a temple nearby, it is such a terrible incident that we have gathered here to help people. I got to know through the news about the incident. I have been here for 2 hours now and approximately 27-29 people have been reported dead but as per the people who were working here the number is much higher. It is a tragic incident and there is no helpdesk from the government for people to find out about their loved ones."

Reporter informs that the helpdesk has been opened at the hospitals where the victims have been taken there. "That helpline wasn't operational till an hour back and people are still waiting for the information about their people. Another thing is that a political slugfest has started between ruling and opposition placing blame for the tragedy on each other."

Name: Sanjay Chauhan: "My name is Sanjay Chauhan from Malviya Nagar Delhi. It is a very tragic and big incident that after looking at this we get tears in our eyes. The Delhi government is so indifferent towards these kinds of incidents that the people of Delhi now are really afraid of forgetting all this and move ahead. How will my Delhi be safe and preserved, how will the 2 crore people of Delhi feel safe. In about every 6-7 months one or the other such incidence happens for ex let's count from the Uphaar Tragedy since then almost 10-12 such tragedies have happened. Last such incident had happened at the Filmistan but till now we haven't learnt any lesson from that. If we talk about the safety norms of the buildings the labour class people working here for 6000-7000 rupees to take care of families don't know that it can be the last day of their lives while working here. The government is very ignorant towards the policies either by will or they are not handle it. This matter is really serious and we are the residents of Delhi have to come together and find out that how can we make our Delhi safe. There are different Departments for everything like MCD, Delhi Jal board, electricity, fire Safety why don't we link them together for ex we give electricity to a building immediately the other departments will get the information and they will do their respective jobs. If a buliding is illegal then it should get cancelled or sealed. Once we get the clearance from all the departments we can start the operations."

Reporter confirms that there are more such building nearby which have similar Issue of safety norms.

Sanjay Chauhan: "It is the job of a surveyor, the Delhi government has to look into the matter very seriously. I am an activist/social worker, we talk to people around and we are told that the corruption has become huge. If there is no corruption then how is this building ignoring all factors of safety norms and running their work (9:46)

I really request the CM of Delhi that just by giving away money to the people who are dead will not solve the problem. Please think about the people who have lost their loved ones. Will all will come and go but the people will suffer the loss of life for many many years. We can't even imagine about the loss they will or are suffering. (10:21)"
