Residents panicked as heavy rain caused flash floods in villages in Davao City, the Philippines on Friday, May 27.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA), reported that the Low Pressure Area had affected some parts of Mindanao, spawning heavy rains and flash floods in several villages

Concerned resident Wilma Sagune recorded locals attempting to block their gate to prevent intense flash floods from spilling onto the busy highway in Lower Tamugan.

According to the reports, the flood flowed down from the upper part of Tamugan and hit one resident's house, causing the people to panic.

The Philippines and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand are at the start of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until late November.

Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods which cause rivers to flow faster and become dangerous.

Many of the under-developed nations struggle to cope with the heavy rain due to under-investment infrastructure.
