Market stalls were submerged in water as flash floods hit a town in Myanmar over the weekend.

Footage shows the water covering stores in the Tar Lot Market, located near the Mae Sai river running along Tachileik town on August 13.

The vendors' goods - including several new bags - were seen drifting away downstream.

The Mae Sai river is believed to have overflowed during the rainy season, inundating both sides of the Thai-Myanmar border.

Myanmar and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November.

Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
