A group of brave locals in northeastern Russia spotted a wild bear with its head stuck in a fuel canister on June 12 and risked a mauling to save the stricken creature.

According to eyewitnesses in the Neryungri region of the Republic of Sakha, the young brown bear was spotted wandering around bumping into things with the vessel on its head beside a road.

The group approached the bear and worked together with ropes to keep the animal in one place so they could pull the canister off its head while avoiding swipes from its clawed paws.

After several minutes, the group got the large mammal into the perfect position to successfully pop off the canister.

Once out and with its vision restored, the rescuers were forced to run from the distressed bear to avoid being attacked.

In the Neryungri region of the Republic of Sakha, a one-year-old bear stuck its head in a canister, got lost and, wandering around the area in search of a road, from time to time bumped into various structures. Local residents caught the bear near the highway and tried to help him.

It turned out that it was not so easy to pacify the defenseless beast: the clubfoot tried to get rid of the lid on its own and kept escaping, but with a canister on its head, it would hardly have been able to run far from its rescuers. After several minutes of struggling with the tin tank, the bear gave up and the men managed to remove the tank from the animal's head.
