Rockets fell from the sky like missiles at a Buddhist festival in Thailand.

More than 900 rockets were launched for the religious festivities in Yasothon province from 8am in the morning until dusk on June 15.

They made smoky streaks across the sky before losing momentum and plummeting back down to the ground.

Despite the excitement in the air, locals from Baan Tab Tao village took shelter inside the Wat Tha Wa temple three miles away to monitor the projectiles' trajectory. Their town is prone to a barrage of fallen rockets during the annual celebration.

Residents said that no missiles struck their homes this year as they fell on electric posts and roads instead.

Relieved villager Noppadol said: ‘Our village is a risky area. We have to check where the rockets will fall to make sure we don't get injured if any of them fall near us.'
